HAPPY HALLOWEEN and A BLESSED SAMHAIN

All the above are from The Halloween Tarot

I'm off again (this time a three day trip) to upstate New York to check out another retirement residence I'm interested in. I seriously doubt I'll have computer access while way, so won't be checking comments and emails until Friday, November 2nd.

Have a Happy Halloween and a Blessed Samhain. If you'd like to read some Halloween haiku-like horror poems, with a link to information about Samhain, you can visit the post on my dreams and poetry blog here.

HAIKU ABOUT THE SUN CARD by Patricia Kelly, with a recommended article & reading spread

Sun card image by Simone

the sun nourishes
we share our lights with the world
in turn

I just stumbled across this intriguing article by Geraldine Amaral about The Sun card as representing our "bright shadow self," as opposed to The Devil card which can represent our dark shadow. I highly recommend trying the Bright Shadow Spread that is included in the article. It gave me a very inspiring and supportive Tarot reading tonight.

WAY OF THE HORSE CARD WRITING PROMPT, & VACATION ANNOUNCEMENT

I recently reviewed this wonderful new non-Tarot card deck (Way of the Horse Review, includes publication information). As I prepare to go on a short trip to California from October 16 to October 20, I thought I’d leave you all with a card to ponder from this amazing deck. I chose the below card totally at random after shuffling the deck.

I’m also offering a challenge (or tactfully put, a “prompt” :-D). Write something about what you see in this card’s images. A poem, a story, a haiku. Or maybe do a drawing in response, or a collage, or do a dance or sing. This is not something you can get wrong or even right, by the way. This is offered entirely as a creative spring board. So let this card below stir your creativity in some way:

I’ve left the title of the card off because I’d like for your imaginations to have “full rein.” If you are so inclined, I’d love to see what response this card generates for you. You can post about it in a comment here or email me.

By the way, I am not certain I will have internet access while in California. But hopefully I will be able to check my emails and blog comments. If I don’t have access while away, I’ll be looking forward to some delightful surprises when I get back on October 20th.

GLOOMINOUS DOOM of The Faeries' Oracle

I thought I'd pull a card from The Faeries' Oracle as I'm attending the online PsiberDreaming & The Arts Conference of the International Association for the Study of Dreams and faeries tend to abound. Especially in the mysterious (miraculous? fey?) healing of one attendee's faery web site that had been horribly hacked. So I shuffled and asked: What faery or faeries want to have a say on my blog today? And, LOL!, out came #56, Gloominous Doom:

*"Gloominous Doom," in THE FAIRIES' ORACLE: Working With The Fairies To Find Wisdom, and Joy; by Brian Froud, text by Jessica Macbeth; Fireside, Rockefeller Center, 1230 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020; 2000.

I laughed so hard! This almost charming self-pity champion had been my companion rather constantly for several days until just recently. Of course, I do begin to wonder if he's saying "You're not through with me quite yet this time around." Well, if so, at least I'm a bit more prepared. I'll welcome a self-pity party, be ready for all of the odd little "gifts" he brings, and then get on with the rest of my life again in a more positive way. I realize I may be able to assert this now as he's not actually in my vicinity, however. :-D

Gloominous Doom's askew thinking can blind us into believing that the worse our lives are, the more we pity ourselves. As the accompanying book for this deck points out, though, the reverse is actually true: "The sorrier we feel for ourselves, the worse our life becomes." However, we also need to know just how we are actually feeling in order to let those thoughts and feelings go. So that's why a good pity party in which we indulge in all the negativity can be very helpful. Then, we need to choose to let it all go and get on with our lives from a life-affirming perspective. "Gloominous Doom" gives us the prickly gift of knowing the dimensions of our self-pity so we can choose to feel differently. I think he should be thanked for doing his very unpopular but rather important job. :-D
