THE TEN OF WANDS

TODAY'S CARD IS The Ten of Wands (Staves) in The Ancestral Path Tarot, by Julie Cuccia-Watts, published by US Games 1995:

For comparison, here's The Ten of Wands in The Rider/Waite/Smith deck:

THE TEN OF WANDS: This card has always been an intriguing one to me. In the RWS version above, is the character really over-burdened or just happily plowing ahead with some creative project or possibly bringing a load of firewood home to the family? If burdened, could s/he choose to put down that load altogether, or maybe break it up into smaller bunches? Suffice it to say that although I certainly see it's traditional meanings of "oppression" and "burden," I also see a lot of possibility for creative action here. And the Ten of Wands above in the Ancestral Path Tarot reflects this in the well-cared for family. I definitely get no impression of burden here, rather of the work involved in manifesting caring and commitment.

DIFFERENT OR LESS COMMON, EVEN QUIRKY MEANINGS FOR THE TEN OF WANDS (i.e. the below is not intended to be an exhaustive exploration of this card; a quick google will produce a wider variety of takes should you not be familiar with this card):

Unconsciously exaggerating your troubles in order to feel more alive.

Hiding behind familiar old problems to avoid the unknown.

It's your cross to bear, so get on with it. Get a grip, yes it's a lot, but you can handle it and you know this deep inside.

You'll ultimately be glad you held on (or out).

A need to shield against others' negativity and/or pain.

Unconsciously holding yourself back or down, possibly in response to a sudden overwhelming rise of energy inside yourself.

Time to apply your skills and talents elsewhere, i.e. time to wind up this endeavor and move on.

Focus on pragmatic, hands-on things, like getting "on the road" with some project or gathering your resources for it, and less on emotions and anxious thoughts.

It's appropriate for people's focus right now to be on what you do/produce, rather than on you; i.e., the work is more important at present than any individual involved in it. Conversely, you need to come out from behind your projects and be known for your work.

The way to develop more muscle is to challenge your body. The way to achieve more in your work/career is to challenge your creativity.

"He's not heavy, he's my brother." The work of loving care and responsibility.
