THE MAGICIAN (I) REDUX

A WICKED MAGICIAN --

I have addressed The Magician (I) already (click here). But I just came across this wonderful version by Teresa Wild that I use by permission:

Do visit Terry's site to see some of her other Tarot paintings.

For comparison, here's The Magician in the Rider/Waite/Smith deck:

Terry's version of The Magician gave me the following additional meaning:

Someone who you are seeing as scary or wrong or even evil (maybe blaming them for something) because of their unusual understandings and/or abilities. Take a deep breath and try to see past your assumptions or fear to determine what this person is really about and what they are truly offering. Then what you need to do will become clearer.

‘til next time, keep using all your skills to see deeply, and enjoying The Tarot,

THE EIGHT OF PENTACLES

TODAY'S CARD IS The Eight of Pentacles. This version is from The Gipsy Tarot, by Walter Wegmuller, copyright 1982 by AGM AGMuller, Neuhausen/Switzerland, distributed by U.S. Games Systems, Inc.:

For comparison, here's The Eight of Pentacles from the Rider/Waite/Smith deck:

THE EIGHT OF PENTACLES: I've always been readily engaged by the Gipsy Tarot, with all the little faces and puzzling figures in the detailed and colorful designs. The Eight of Pentacles is a good example of this: see the three-faced figure just above the middle of the card, looking left, right and forward. This card sometimes has a connection to the past and future. So I can interpret this three-faced figure as representing this time spanning possibility. (Even when I do not find any clear meaning to this deck's embellishments and details, I still really enjoy them and find depth in the cards.)

DIFFERENT OR LESS COMMON, EVEN QUIRKY MEANINGS FOR THE EIGHT OF PENTACLES (i.e. the below is not intended to be an exhaustive exploration of this card; a quick google will produce a wider variety of takes should you not be familiar with this card):

A problematic relationship from which you need to and can learn something.

Past life issues. Whether one believes in past lives or not, the story as it presents through this card may be instructive with respect to the inquiry.

Not a time to over-indulge or expend resources.

Are you being a perfectionist about this issue? Is less actually more?

Are you approaching this in the best way? Take more time to think/feel your way around and through it.

Are you too dependent on this person/situation right now? It may be time to loosen the bonds, and even consider letting go all together.

Allowing and facilitating will yield far better results for all concerned right now (as opposed to pushing, commanding, demanding).

Issues with absorption, both literally and metaphorically. Taking in what is nutritious and supportive at a basic level. This will not only support the present, but nourish the future.

You may sense something of the future stirring in your harvest. But it is not necessarily time to figure it out or act on it, but rather to take care of the present situation.

Someone who takes great joy out of doing their work in the world, beyond even any material satisfaction or reward. Someone who, in essence, "walks their talk." Lives out their beliefs in whatever their life and work may happen to be about.
