A TAROT SCIFAIKU

open time capsule
living Tarot archetypes
walk the earth again

A scifaiku is a haiku-inspired poetry form with a science fiction, fantasy, or horror theme. I've been trying my hand at them for many years and really enjoy the scifaiku group I participate in on yahoo. Given my love of The Tarot, it was from the start a foregone conclusion that it would show up in an occasional scifaiku that I write.

I was not thinking of any particular card when I wrote this scifaiku. I was thinking of the deck as a whole. Imagining the characters on them having once been living on our earth in some time-before-time. I chose Judgment to illustrate it because of those opening boxes and also because of one of it's meanings: rebirth. And I have that yahoo scifaiku group to thank for the inspiration because I wrote it as part of one of our scifaiku linked strings. (Each scifaiku added by a new writer is somehow, if only vaguely, connected to the previous.)

BLOG DAY 2007

BLOG DAY 2007

"Choices, choices...," The Seven of Cups in the Rider/Waite/Smith Tarot

This is a little departure from my usual posts here, but it's such a good idea I'm going with it. Scuffyhippo (of scruffyhippo's blog, see below) let me know that today is BLOG DAY 2007, in which we bloggers post five of our most favorite blogs. I visit these five below just about every day:

THE TAROT CHANNEL
Amazing resource for any Tarotphile, such as myself; basically, all things Tarot can and do show up here, via it's several contributing editors.

ONE DEEP BREATH
A weekly prompt is posted for writing a haiku (haiga, tanka, other small forms welcome, too); you send them the permanent link for your posted response, and they post the link from each responder to their blog. I participate every week (see my dreams and poetry blog). There are also many good links to related sites here.

SUMMER HAIKU 2007
This is a group blog, to which all who sign up can post and comment (haiga, tanka, etc. are also welcome). It just closed to new haiku today as it's summer's end, but leave a comment if you want to be notified of the fall blog (i.e., each year there are 4 group blogs, one for each season). However, you can still read all of the posts here on Summer Haiku 2007.

WORDS MATTER
A new blog by a wonderful writer and thinker. You might want to also visit his web site. He’s recently started a copy writing business (link on his web site) and I’d hire him myself.

SCRUFFYHIPPO'S BLOG
And last, but most certainly not least, scruffyhippo, who told me about BLOG DAY 2007. Wide ranging posts on all things esoteric. I always find something to comment on at great length. LOL!

If you visit, say "Patricia (a/k/a Roswila)" sent you. :-)

THE TEN OF WANDS

TODAY'S CARD IS The Ten of Wands (Staves) in The Ancestral Path Tarot, by Julie Cuccia-Watts, published by US Games 1995:

For comparison, here's The Ten of Wands in The Rider/Waite/Smith deck:

THE TEN OF WANDS: This card has always been an intriguing one to me. In the RWS version above, is the character really over-burdened or just happily plowing ahead with some creative project or possibly bringing a load of firewood home to the family? If burdened, could s/he choose to put down that load altogether, or maybe break it up into smaller bunches? Suffice it to say that although I certainly see it's traditional meanings of "oppression" and "burden," I also see a lot of possibility for creative action here. And the Ten of Wands above in the Ancestral Path Tarot reflects this in the well-cared for family. I definitely get no impression of burden here, rather of the work involved in manifesting caring and commitment.

DIFFERENT OR LESS COMMON, EVEN QUIRKY MEANINGS FOR THE TEN OF WANDS (i.e. the below is not intended to be an exhaustive exploration of this card; a quick google will produce a wider variety of takes should you not be familiar with this card):

Unconsciously exaggerating your troubles in order to feel more alive.

Hiding behind familiar old problems to avoid the unknown.

It's your cross to bear, so get on with it. Get a grip, yes it's a lot, but you can handle it and you know this deep inside.

You'll ultimately be glad you held on (or out).

A need to shield against others' negativity and/or pain.

Unconsciously holding yourself back or down, possibly in response to a sudden overwhelming rise of energy inside yourself.

Time to apply your skills and talents elsewhere, i.e. time to wind up this endeavor and move on.

Focus on pragmatic, hands-on things, like getting "on the road" with some project or gathering your resources for it, and less on emotions and anxious thoughts.

It's appropriate for people's focus right now to be on what you do/produce, rather than on you; i.e., the work is more important at present than any individual involved in it. Conversely, you need to come out from behind your projects and be known for your work.

The way to develop more muscle is to challenge your body. The way to achieve more in your work/career is to challenge your creativity.

"He's not heavy, he's my brother." The work of loving care and responsibility.
