A FOUND TAROT PAGE OF WANDS (kinda, sorta)

Yes, this Found Tarot Page of Wands of mine takes a bit of explaining. After I'd morphed the behoositz out of the original photo, I gave it the mundane name "Tiger By The Tail" (3-21-15 019v5). It was that which led me to see the Page of Wands in it. In the Thoth Tarot this Page -- rather, Princess, as all four pages are called -- is flying, hauling a tiger behind her. What has always struck me is that the tiger's tail is curled around her neck. Not exactly a comfortable place for it to be for the Princess, I'd say. The message I get from that aspect of the Thoth Tarot version today: no progress and/or use of power without some inherent danger. BTW, the Princesses in the Thoth Tarot are rather more powerful and active than the Pages in most decks. But correspondences between decks are not always neat or exact. And she's still a Page to me.

N.B. A small thing, but just in case: some of the extra reference links offered at the very end of my oldest (years old) posts no longer work. As there are so many posts here to go through I am choosing not to find and change all of those links that are "dead." If you are interested, you can try Googling for the name of the site or article referenced. I've found that some are still around in new locations or incarnations, some not.

'til next time, keep enjoying The Tarot, in whatever ways it comes to you in your life,

THE PAGE OF WANDS REDUX II (With a Mini-Review of The Voyager Tarot)

I'm going to be doing a fourteen day Tarot ritual starting under the New Moon this Sunday, August 12th, utilizing the wands of The Voyager Tarot. In separating the wands from the rest of the deck in preparation tonight I was delightfully reminded that the Page of Wands is just about my most favorite card in this gorgeous deck. So I thought I'd share it here:

The Child (Page) of Wands (titled Seeker), Voyager Tarot
Jim Wanless, symbolist and Ken Knutson, artist

I love the quiet delicacy of this design, the hush of watching and listening. Notice the light shining through the rabbit's and mouse's ears (upper and lower left, respectively). Traditionally, the Page of Wands (as are all pages) is a messenger. Here it is seeking messages, receptive to them. The overall effect for me is of an awe-filled waiting. It is not surprising that The Tarot would have brought this card to me during this time in which I am filled with lamenting and questioning. Reminding me that to question ultimately requires us to watch and listen, quietly and reverently.

A happy coincidence -- When I checked out The Voyager Tarot site tonight and clicked on the "card for the day" it was The Three of Wands, another one of my "just about ... most favorite" cards in this deck. That central hand is from a statue of Kuan Yin. The card is called "Compassion" in this deck. A wonderful take on a card often seen to be about new enterprises/business matters.

MINI-REVIEW OF THE VOYAGER TAROT: This is an absolutely stunning collage deck, produced on good size, great quality card stock. There are a few designs (as with every deck :-D) that I do not particularly like or agree with, but they make sense within Tarot and are beautifully executed. Ultimately, though, it is such a stunning deck that I cannot do Tarot readings with it! I find myself lost in the art itself. However, I have always found it the perfect deck to do meditative or ritual work with, as I will be doing starting this Sunday. In short, it is a deck that has not ever "gathered dust" in my collection, even though I've had it since the middle 1980's when it first came out.

THE PAGE OF WANDS REDUX

The Page of Wands, The Gendron Tarot, by Melanie Gendron

I've already done my usual post on the Page of Wands (click here to read it and the meanings I offer). But in going through The Gendron Tarot when I did my recent Star card post (click here for that post that also has a mini-review of The Gendron Tarot) I rediscovered my favorite card in that deck. And it feels particularly appropriate to this time of year when mystery and magic seem to abound, along with winter beauty.

For comparison, here's The Page of Wands in the Rider/Waite/Smith deck:

The Gendron version above offered me the following "new" meaning for The Page of Wands:

Just being open to the possibility of beauty (as in that sense of awe) in our lives changes our orientation to other messages and insights; helps us be more open and receptive to Spirit.

THE PAGE OF WANDS

TODAY'S CARD is the Page of Wands. This version is from The Thoth Deck and is named The Princess of Wands in that deck:

For comparison, here's the Page of Wands in the Rider/ Waite/ Smith deck:

THE PAGE OF WANDS: I have seen discussion as to whether the Princesses in the Thoth Tarot are appropriately corresponded to the Pages in other decks. I personally feel the "fit" is not exact, but is close enough. No "translation" is ever completely accurate, IMHO, unless one deck is a "clone" of the other (just a re-working of the same symbolism). Not to mention that for me, my working relationship with any card, in any deck, changes over time.

No matter what deck I'm working with I also see the image in my mind's eye of the Princess of Wands from the Thoth deck when I get the Page of Wands. The Princess of Wands was a persistent visitor in my readings many years ago when I was using the Thoth deck during a time of tremendous creative (and other sorts of) change. I ultimately became rather fond of the Page of Wands in any deck, heralding as she had so many different kinds of creative bursts.

DIFFERENT TAKES ON THE PAGE OF WANDS:

The time is not right for what is urging itself upon you to do.

Sudden creative impulse.

Use this surge of energy wisely, don't waste it or ignore it.

You have a "tiger by the tail." Be careful you do not communicate or act without consideration of your own resources and where others are at on this issue.

This card used to come up when I had been neglecting playing my didjeridu, during the years I was very focused on music (...drums, flutes, rattles...I'm not a trained musician). A didjeridu is an Australian aboriginal instrument made from the hollowed out branch of a eucalyptus tree with a bees wax mouthpiece, looking somewhat like the "wand" the Page is holding in the RWS design. :-D
