A TEN OF SWORDS DREAM STORY (poem by Patricia Kelly)

Ten of Swords in The Barbara Walker Tarot (see "Resource" below)

A TEN OF SWORDS DREAM STORY*

Yes, she has survived, made the long swim
to shore, riding out harsh waves
and crossing over deep trenches, the crescents
of her arms like moons rising
and falling, rising
and falling

Yes, she has done all that and more
to stand on this new shore with sea water dripping
like tears from her black robe

Like the tears she harbors for the one
whose landing was not safe:
he who swam through the storms by her side,
the songs they sang to each other above the crash
of waves and thunder their only life line

The songs that told her who she was,
echoing off the skies and sounding the depths
in a shining map of the possible or alive
with the gloriously fantastic

Their singing together that taught
her how to keep on breathing no matter
the gales that would snatch
at their breath

She curls her toes deeply
in the wet sand, claiming through the haze
of her pain a true purchase
on this new shore

She looks toward her burrowing
toes but her belly beneath her black robe
is too hugely round to allow
this grounding sight

The new life she carries there pulses
from her center against the black robe,
once, twice, raising it gently like a heart’s
fluttering as a wind sighs toward her
from the rising sun

YIN & YANG (Tarot/dream-based Poem)

YIN & YANG

I

In the dream I look up at you
from The Queen of Swords card
and quote this lonely lady
as she speaks to me:

We are more than what
we see and feel

II

In the subway the stranger and I
are silent but connected
by the riotous sunset that greets
us as the train curves into Queens:

We are more than what
we hear and say

TAROT DREAMKU ABOUT THE STAR CARD

I'll have to flag
this meaning for The Star card:
the risk is worth it

My two most recent posts are both about The Star. The dream this dreamku is based on is one I had about two nights ago. It's delightful to have The Star card as a consistent presence at any time, but especially in times of more than usually intense changes. And especially when She (I always think of The Star as female, and it is most often female in decks) visits with such encouragement, as She did in that dream. Of course, I'm too savvy with respect to dream work to be certain that the last line indicates a positive outcome to the risk. Only that, no matter how it turns out, it will have been worth it. :-)

The two versions of The Star at the top of this post are from two different decks by John Star Cooke in his boxed triple deck set, The Word of One Tarot (Catalyst Enterprises, Visalia, California: 1992). The male (!) version on the left is from his Tarot for the Aquarian Age (a/k/a The New Tarot) and the one on the right is from his Atlantean Tarot. (You can see The Star from the third deck, The Medieval Tarot, at the link below by "Resource," as well as a couple other from The Atlantean Tarot, and several additional cards from The New Tarot. I will eventually do a post covering this triple deck set, with a sample reading. For now I'll simply add that the three decks cover the three ages of humankind so far.)

For many years The Moon card stayed by me. It remains to be seen how long The Star will now accompany me on my path. But however long She stays out in the open like this (She's always there, just not always in line-of-sight :-D), I'll be delighted and encouraged.

P.S. If you want to find out more about dreamku, there are links to A DREAMKU PRIMER near the top of my dreams and poetry blog (link below my signature here).

THE STAR (A Poem Inspired By XVII in The Thoth Tarot, by Patricia Kelly)

THE STAR

newborn naked each evening
She kneels pouring gifts
to earth, to water, offering
more than we embrace,
Her seven sisters singing
in the distance

She never has nor ever will deny us
yet we deny ourselves.
Is this the sadness blushing
faintly violet through the night?
